Most people don?t automatically associate Ford with cutting edge technology. However, the fact is that Ford is at the forefront of tech when it comes to safety, entertainment and cars of the future. Let?s take a look at some of the forward technology that Ford is currently offering and has in store for the future.
Most people are familiar with Ford?s SYNC system. This system allows the driver to control the stereo system, navigation and Bluetooth functions by using simple voice commands. Voice technology features are usually only available on upscale luxury models but Ford makes it affordable and available on entry-level autos.
Have a smart phone? Who doesn?t these days! Sync?s Applink lets you control the applications on your smart phone by voice even when you are driving. This feature comes standard on the new Fusion and Mustang cars. Now you can update your Twitter account and post tweets even when you are on the road.
SecuriCode is another handy feature; this allows the driver to open the car by simply typing in a 5 digit security code into a keypad. Ever had those moments where you accidentally locked your keys inside and had to call AAA to open the door for you? Those days are long gone with the Securicode Keyless Entrypad. The keypad is smartly hidden from sight unless activated by the driver.
Ford is also currently working on developing a system that will enable automobiles to communicate with each other. This will allow vehicles to sense other cars via a wireless system and warn the driver if he or she is in the process of making an unsafe lane change. Cars will be able to ?sense? other cars before they are visible to the driver. Experts estimate that this technology will be available in another five years.
This system would also be able to sense which areas are backed up in terms of traffic and automatically re-route you for a faster and more efficient travel time. Ford is currently working in conjunction with the government in order to develop a common standard language that all autos will be able to use.
