dressed up like a lady: Dressed Up Review: LingeriePlease

A warning to the faint of heart: this post is about undies!

I recently received a fantastic offer from Rebecca at the UK online shop Lingerie Please to review a selection of complimentary lingerie. How could I say no? I took a look at the site and then came back to Rebecca with a general notion of what I loved, then gave her my sizing and let her go ahead and pick out my goodie bag.Given that this was clearly a great opportunity to indulge in the recreational side of undergarments, I immediately started looking at pretty bras. This is where I'd like to get personal for just a minute. I'm a firm, FIRM believer in a woman's right to shamelessly indulge in her own sensuality. Wearing something sexy under your own clothes (or even peaking out, if you're so inclined) is a delightful way to dress the part of your own heroine, in your own romantic story.?So naturally, I was looking for unmentionables that featured structure and prettiness. You can't exactly live out a provocative fantasy about being a sex goddess when the embroidery is cheap or the seams are bulky. But looking at the site's selection, I was more than pleased. This store only carries the good stuff! I love brands like Gossard -- which are full of gorgeous details, like wide underbands and real metal O rings.Rebecca sent me the Gossard longline bra from their Ooh La La collection -- which is a retro line of lingerie based on the lingerie Gossard sold during the 1940's. She also sent me the deep suspender garter belt to match, and a pair of backseamed black fishnets from Baci Lingerie to go with it.

I practically don't know what to say about the Gossard pieces -- that's how gorgeous they are. I thought it best to let them speak for themselves, but it was tricky figuring out how to photograph a bra and garter belt without doing a full-on cheesecake pictorial (which I know is not really far afield from my usual unapologetic sensual antics, but what can I say, I love a challenge).

The Baci fishnets were soft and comfy as well, without drooping or losing their shape. They were a little tough to button into the garter belt, but that's really more a complaint about the state of thigh highs in this day and age -- namely, that almost all thigh highs now come with an elastic band so they can stay up by themselves -- but this bunches up and gets in the way of a garter loop. This always strikes me as odd, considering that if you're in the mood to wear thigh highs, it seems like a reasonable assumption that you're also in the mood for a garter belt.
But of course, that just goes to show how there's a strange nod toward function rather than fashion (or indulgence) when it comes to undies. So let's all agree to do a little more shopping at places like Lingerieplease, to show the industry what we want! ;)
