Automotive supplier AFS America to bring new jobs to Columbus

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

Korean automotive parts supplier, AFS America LLC, plans to open a manufacturing facility and warehouse in Columbus.

The company, a subsidiary of parent company NVH Korea Co., Ltd., will create 65 new jobs and invest more than $3 million in this facility.

AFS America LLC will produce automobile floor mats and cargo trays in the Columbus, Georgia facility.? The company is a key supplier for Hyundai Mobis, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia (KMMG), Hyundai Motors Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) and General Motors. The new facility is expected to begin its operations by fourth quarter 2012 and be fully operational by 2013.

"We are excited to start our U.S. operations and take advantage of the highly skilled workforce in the Columbus, Georgia Region. We are grateful for the support of the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce," said Jakyum Koo, Chairman of NVH Korea. "Our goal is to create meaningful opportunities in this community and better serve our customers in the USA."

Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Jay Alexander, praised the total team effort.

"It takes the Chamber's private sector focus combined with the public sector through the Development Authority of Columbus, the Columbus Consolidated Government and the state of Georgia to make an announcement of new jobs and capital investment become a reality," Alexander said.

"The recruitment of automotive supplier companies remains a targeted industry for us," said Dick Ellis, chairman of the Development Authority of Columbus, Georgia. "We've been working with the leadership at NVH Korea since November and we are pleased that they have decided to locate their first U.S. manufacturing facility in Columbus.

"Our economic development team is now focused on assisting AFS America with setting up the facility, hiring, training and getting them in business in a very tight timeframe."

AFS America's Columbus facility will be located in the Corporate Ridge Business Park. This will provide the company with strategic access to its key customers in Georgia and the Southeast.

AFS America will also benefit from the highly-skilled talent in the Columbus Region that is trained for manufacturing operations. The company will also receive operations-specific workforce training from Georgia Quick Start, the nation's top-ranked workforce training program.

The Greater Columbus Georgia Chamber of Commerce, Development Authority of Columbus, and The Valley Partnership partnered with the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD) to secure this business opportunity for the Columbus, Georgia Region.

Chamber Senior Vice President of Economic Development, Brian Sillitto, is managing the project for Columbus. GDEcD statewide Project Manager, Yoonie Kim, facilitated the project for the state.

Job applications will be accepted at the Georgia Department of Labor, Columbus Career Center located at 700 Veterans Parkway, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm.
