Twain's stalker sentenced to 3 years probation

Here's hoping Shania Twain's nightmare is over.

Former Ottawa doctor Giovanni (John) Palumbo, who pled guilty to stalking the country music star in September, was sentenced to three years probation Tuesday, according to Toronto's CTV News.

Palumbo has been in custody since March, after he allegedly broke his restraining order by attending the Juno Awards in Toronto while Twain was being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

And that was after he showered her with numerous love letters and showed up uninvited to her grandmother's funeral and her Ontario home (which resulted in the aforementioned restraining order).

Palumbo's sentencing was previously delayed so that he could undergo a psychiatric review ?the results of which were revealed today.

Dr. Helen Ward, who completed Palumbo's three-week assessment, testified that Palumbo suffers from bipolar disorder and narcissistic personality disorder.

But Palumbo, who has become notorious for his courtroom outbursts, wasn't about to take that professional assessment lying down.

He interrupted Dr. Ward as she testified Tuesday, shouting, "I'm not narcissistic, I agree you're all superior to me."

Needless to say, that plea didn't get him off scot-free.

In addition to his probation, the judge also ordered Palumbo to stay in counseling, to not be within a half a kilometer of Twain, and to not have any contact or direct or indirect communication with Twain.
